2018, the new year and a time for setting new goals.
Welcome to 2018 and happy New Year.
Are you already thinking what so many others are……New year, new me? If you are, then get ready to stop that thought and start to think how can I grow, improve and get better this year? All you need is some new goals and aspirations, not a new you.
I always start by getting some quiet time, and firstly reflecting on 2017, what went well and what didn’t go well. Grab a pen, your phone or yout tablet and note your top 5 of each down, and then ask yourself, “Why did I put them there?”.
You are now starting to write your 2018 master plan…
Celebrate your success with 2018 goals.
Take a moment to recognise your top 5 successes and give your self a big well-done. If you notice so many of us start the year with this is what we are going to change whether its a new job, losing weight, joining the gym, finding love, starting your new career and many more, but we start this process without taking stock and looking back on 2017 properly.
Think about why these successes happened and how are you feeling both now and then? Keep hold of these thoughts as they will serve you motivation and remind you how good you are, what you can achieve and when you need to achieve.
Start the plan and stick to your 2018 goals.
Now that you’re feeling good, take a look atnd the 5 things you wrote that didn’t go well, or that you feel most let down, disappointed or frustrated with.
Next to each one ask yourself the following questions:
- “Was it worth doing in the first place and why did it go wrong?”
- “What can you do to do it differently, and then write down your answers? “
If it’s worth doing then get it done and if it wasn’t then remove it but make sure you learn from it. Any losses are not losses they are lessons of growth and learning and will add value to your 2018 goals.
Creating a better you, in 2018.
Now you should have some great actions for 2018 with how you can create a better YOU, Not a new you, but an improved you.
Now think of 3 things that if you not only did them but achieved them, would make you feel better and write all of them down. Don’t just think about money, think about what really makes you happy puts a smile on your face.
Write them down with the other lessons learnt from 2017 and you now have the start of a good master plan for your goals and aspirations for 2018. Now, take the time to write down some milestone markers that will help you achieve your goals and you are on your way to being a stronger, improved version of yourself!
Embracing change in 2018 to improve you, not others around you.
Remember your 2018 goals, keep them front of mind and don’t change for other people. Change because it improves you, your quality of life and it makes you happy, not those around you, the people around you that matter will be happier because you are and can see the IMPROVED YOU!!
Good luck to everyone for 2018. I hope this article was useful to you and I hope to catch up with some of you throughout the year.
